Album Review: Alter Bridge's Third Album, AB III
60
Alter Bridge
Named after a bridge in Detroit, this four-piece have taken two genres of music - hard rock and metal - and melded them together in a truly unique way.
Mark Tremonti, lead guitar, grew up listening to thrash and death metal; Myles Kennedy, vocals and rhythm guitar, grew up listening to The Who and The Rolling Stones.
This mixture of the melodic with the monstrous, the lyrical and the loud, has resulted in Alter Bridge's music spanning genres and wowing audiences worldwide.
AB III
The simple title of Alter Bridge's third studio album belies a sophistcation of lyric and melody to haunt and enthrall.
From the unutterably eerie opening of Slip to the Void to the catchiness of Fallout and Make it Right, AB III has something for everyone.
Mixing Tremonti's riff-driven guitar language with Kennedy's soulful yet scorching lyrics, the pair are more than adequately backed up by the bass and drums duo of Phillips and Marshall, who bring muscle and depth to the back of the sound.
'Isolation' performed brilliantly as the band's first single and the second, 'Ghosts of Days Gone By', haunted rock radio stations across the globe.
The band has embarked on extensive touring of America, Europe and the Far East, interspersed with Myles Kennedy touring with Slash as the vocalist for his touring band.
Everywhere Alter Bridge perform, they are selling out shows and receiving rave reviews.
Myles and Slash
Although he has been fronting guitar god Slash's touring band all summer, Myles' voice is in fine fettle and he found the time to spend with his band finalising the track list, photography and artwork for the band's latest release.
Any future plans Myles may have to work again with Slash, or indeed to release the solo album he has recorded, are currently on hold as he pours all his considerable energy into promoting this great band's great third album.

Nice Hub on a good band. I must admit I prefer Creed but then 'Blackbird' by Alter Bridge is an incredible song. Thanks for the review Anna, it's an album I need to check out.
